Colts taking steps in the right direction
The East Fremantle Colts are looking to continue their great form tomorrow, when they take on Derby rivals at Fremantle Community Bank Oval 10am.
Coach Clay McLernon said the boys are extremely excited, despite going in as the underdogs.
“Last year South won all three games, but the boys are keen to change that perception,” he said.
“We want to put on a really good performance and if we can get the four points it will put us in a strong position.”
McLernon said that focusing on several factors during the preseason helped put the boys in good stead for the year.
“Everyone’s playing on the same path, we’ve instilled this mentality that you make your teammates look better than yourself,”
“We worked a lot on our skills, particularly in the way we move the ball down the field.”
“Yzzy, our strength and conditioning coach, has a done a great job in getting the boys fit and strong.”
This year, the coaching group wanted to put an emphasis on leadership, seeing this as an area that needed improvement.
“Having strong leaders was really important for us, we wanted to have a group that were essentially coaches on the field.”
Registering only one loss to Peel, the current ladder leaders by 8 points, the Colts have showed some real promise this season.
“The challenge now is to make sure we’re consistently good,”
“In the past we’ve dropped off during the season but we want to make sure that doesn’t happen again.”
The form of the boys has caught the eye of State Selectors, with a number of players in the mix to make the team.
“From the conversations I’ve had with selectors, they are certainly keen on at least 2 to 3 players, with several other boys giving themselves every opportunity.”
Please note: Only the Colts will play tomorrow.
League (4.10 pm) and Development League (1.05 pm) will be held at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Tuesday the 25th April 2017
