Stevo Calls Time on a Fantastic Career

Friday, August 18, 2017 - 4:05 PM

One of East Fremantle’s favourite sons will run out onto Shark Park for the last time this Saturday.

Andrew Stephen, Lynn Medallist, Life Member, four- time state player and 162 League-gamer has decided to hang up the boots at the end of the season.

An emotional Stevo addressed the playing group yesterday, informing the boys that it’s time for him to move on.

He implored the young list to take responsibility in moving the club forward and towards its next Premiership.

In his wonderful 13 years with the Sharks, Stevo has been remarkably resilient, averaging 19 games a season. Running out for his 150th game earlier in the year saw him earn life membership with the club, a fantastic football honour.

Stevo is an outstanding person both on and off the field. He’s built a reputation as one of the best defenders for his size in the competition, with an ability to quell the influence of some of the most dangerous opposition forwards and providing drive off half back for the Sharks. This year we’ve seen his versality up forward, including a 7-goal haul against Claremont in Round 12.

As in integral part of East Fremantle’s Leadership group since 2011, Stevo has been an excellent role model for so many young players.

It’s undeniable that he’s immensely respected by not only his teammates but his opponents as well.

On top of his 162 league games, Stevo has also racked up 31 colts and 60 development league games in the East Fremantle jumper, a great lesson for all young players about being persistent and biding your time.
