Griff to captain the Sharks
The East Fremantle Football Club is delighted to announce that Jonathon Griffin will lead the Sharks in 2018. Matthew Jupp was elected his second in command, while Jonathon Marsh and Cameron Eardley round out this year’s smaller leadership group. In a consistent approach to stripping preseason right back, having a smaller leadership group was decided upon.
Following twelve years in the AFL system, Griffin’s wealth of experience has been a welcome return to the Sharks. Having played in a system that demands high standards and expectations, and the way in which Griffin himself lives those core values, he’s undoubtedly set the precedent for preseason.
Griffin’s leadership qualities have been acknowledged for some time and it’s no surprise to see him as our Captain.
A natural leader, Juppy resumes his position in the leadership group. When several of our leaders were out due to injury last year, Jupp certainly stood up and has earned the respect from his peers.
Eardley returns for his second year in the leadership group where his strong character and determination is a positive influence on the squad. The talented midfielder sets a high standard for the rest of the playing group and will continue to develop in this area during the year.
Marsh, now in his second year back with East Fremantle, has been instrumental in driving playing and training standards at the club. At just 22 years of age, Marsh will no doubt continue to grow as leader.
Jamie McNamara who captained our seniors for the past two seasons and Liam Anthony have both decided to step down from the leadership group to concentrate of playing footy as they enter the twilight of their career. They will no doubt continue to assist the leadership group and set an example for the young squad, on and off the track. We’d like to thank them for their outstanding contribution and will be sure to lead by example in any case.
