2019 Leadership Group

Thursday, March 7, 2019 - 3:31 PM

The East Fremantle Football Club announced their 2019 Senior Leadership Group to Sponsors, Players, Support Staff and Supporters at the Season launch on Thursday night.

In front of a packed Sponsors Lounge, Jonathon Griffin was retained as Captain, having led the side in 2018.

Griffin returned to the Sharks in 2018, having spent 12 years with the Adelaide Crows and Fremantle Dockers. A Premiership player with Peel, Griffin is excited at the prospect of seeing the Sharks rise up the ladder.

“I’m very honoured to be given another opportunity to lead this great football club,” Griffin said.

“Last year was very challenging for the whole East Fremantle football family but I think everyone is going to see a well-structured, professional and competitive unit in 2019.”

Griffin’s Vice Captains for 2019 are Matthew Jupp, Cameron Eardley and Jarrad Jansen.

Jupp, who will play his 100th game for the club in early 2019, has been a regular member of the Leadership group since 2015. A dour defender, Jupp is grateful for another opportunity to lead.

“It’s nice to be recognised by the football club and my team mates. It’s an exciting time right now with a new coach, new approach and some new players. I’m confident, through hard work and unity, we can rise up the ladder quickly.”

Cameron Eardley, promoted to Vice Captain, shares similar sentiments to Jupp. A regular in the Top 5 for the Lynn Medal, Eardley recognises the positivity around the club.

“I’m looking forward to it all starting. I can’t wait to play alongside the new recruits and players that missed large parts of last season due to injury. It’s an exciting time at the moment and I feel extremely privileged to be a part of the group leading the club.”

New addition, Jarrad Jansen is the youngest member of the Leadership group. Keen to develop his leadership skills, Jansen taken great confidence from the faith shown by the club and his teammates.

“There’s been a lot of positivity around the place. I’m really looking forward to putting into action the hard work and learning we’ve done this pre-season.”

Football Manager, Brad Dodd feels the group represents the values and beliefs of the playing squad well.

“After the playing squad established their core values, they were asked to vote in players who best represented those values. We think they’ve come up with a Leadership group that is balanced and represents the squad well. It’s exciting to see Jarrad jump into the group. Jon, Matthew, Jarrad and Cameron will continue to drive the standards of the group."

The Sharks kick off their pre-season campaign on March 16th with a home game against Peel Thunder at New Choice Homes Park.
