Preview | Round 5 v West Perth
East Fremantle are prepared for a fierce battle this Saturday when they host West Perth at New Choice Homes Park.
Both teams are desperate for the all-important first win of the season and it will be the Sharks looking to capitalise on home turf.
The return of Nick Kommer is set to boost the team this week, with his on-field leadership and experience an important inclusion for the Blue and White. Following an interrupted pre-season, Kommer has worked hard to get his body right and return to league football. He made a solid return last week in the reserves, finishing with 18 disposals, 13 tackles and 5 marks.
Following last week’s dismal derby effort, the coaching staff were quick to make changes to the squad facing West Perth. Nick Bonomelli and Matt Burton come into the 25 this week after some dominant performances in the reserves. If played, Bonomelli will make his league debut for the Sharks. The 193cm key forward, is another product of East Fremantle’s Development pathway. Playing junior football for Melville, Bonomelli was a part of our 14’s, 15’s and 16’s development squads, before progressing to the Colts. After booting three goals last week, the long kicking and high marking forward would be a handy inclusion for East Fremantle. Burton, if selected, would make his first league appearance for 2019. Having registered 11 league games across the past two seasons, the inside midfielder has had a strong start to the season in the reserves.
Dillon O’Reilly, who was sidelined with injury after Round 1, and Cameron Loersch who missed last week through illness, are set to return against the Falcons.
In the earlier game, our Reserves will go into their match bolstered by last week’s 70-point win over South Fremantle. With East Fremantle and West Perth currently separated by percentage, it’s shaping up to be a good contest.
The return of our State representatives is set to boost our Colts this week, who will be looking to return to the winner’s circle. Like the reserves, the colts are currently separated by percentage, so the Sharks will have to work hard to cement third spot on the ladder.
