RIDE4NOELZY
Fifteen players from the East Fremantle Football Club are once again strapping on the cycling shoes for the MSWA Ocean Ride in honour of former trainer, Noel Johnstone.
Diagnosed with Primary Progressive MS in 2015, Noel was a sports trainer for 37 years across AFL, WAFL and WAAFL levels.
The Sharks team, led by Lachy Bailey and Alex Montauban came to fruition after Lachy was inspired by Noel’s attitude towards life in his retirement speech at the Lynn Medal.
“I thought he (Noel) was a great person with great values. I stumbled across the ride on social media and I asked a few close mates if they’d like to have a crack at it and it grew from there,” Lachy said.
“I think once people become more aware of Noelzy, his story, and his contribution to WA football, then people wanted to become a part of it. It’s a great cause for a great person. I wanted the boys to be aware of the impact their actions can have on others."
Noel’s devotion, sacrifice and passion for the football club is truly remarkable and a reflection of his great character. His incredible spirit and can-do attitude is reflected as he continues his great work in WA sport, you can hear him on the airwaves through "The Community Sports Show".
