Sharks Fall Short of Surging Royals
League - East Fremantle v East Perth @ Leederville Oval
East Fremantle have fallen short of a strong East Perth side at Leederville Oval on Saturday, with the Royals running out 43 point winners - 8.8 (56) to 15.9 (99).
The Sharks won two of the four quarters but were comprehensively beaten in the middle of the ground, a problem Bill Monaghan will look to rectify before their Round 4 clash against Perth.
East Fremantle kicked the first three goals of the contest thanks to Luke Strnadica (2 first quarter goals) and Jordan Snadden before East Perth replied with three of their own, giving the away side a one point advantage at the first break.
East Fremantle captain Jonathan Griffin once again led from the front, recording 23 hit-outs and a goal. The ruckman’s season tally of 82 hit outs ranks him fourth in the league, a testament to his ability and importance to the Sharks midfield.
In the centre of the ground, Blaine Boekhorst and Jordan Snadden continued their strong ball-finding form, combining for 52 disposals, 5 tackles, 14 marks and a goal while Nick Kommer recorded an impressive 8 tackles - a feature of his game which Sharks supporters will have become accustomed to.
Cody Leggett continued his good early season form with 21 disposals and 5 tackles while up forward 2019 leading goal kicker Luke Strnadica kicked three goals and was instrumental in the Sharks’ solid start.
On the loss, Strnadica said: “After last weeks game against Peel we came into this game with a lot of confidence and we continued that in the first quarter.
That solid form does show that we can match it with any side in the competition.”
“From the on we were really disappointing and I know we let the fans, members and coaches down. We will train hard this week and we will put on a stronger four quarter effort next week against Perth”
This weekend the Sharks take on a very strong Perth Demons side at New Choice Homes Park. Bill Monaghan will be hoping his side can produce its best football for four quarters and finish the round just outside the top 4.
