Round 8 Match Report
East Fremantle have suffered another close loss, this time to the Subiaco Lions, with the Sharks unable to capitalise on a strong three quarters of football in the 6.7 (43) to 12.12 (84) loss.
The Sharks led last year’s premiers at the three-quarter time siren but were unable to finish the game strongly as the Lions kicked the last six goals of the game including one after the three-quarter time siren.
It’s the fourth consecutive game the Sharks have narrowly lost in the past month having fallen short in all their last three matches by 6 points or under.
To compound problems skipper Jonathon Griffin was a late out and then back-up ruckman Brynn Teakle injured his leg during the second term, meaning the Sharks had no one to compete in the ruck with last year’s Sandover Medalist Lachlan Delahunty.
Ambrose Ryan stood out for the Sharks, finishing the day with 24 disposals and three marks while Cam Eardley recorded six tackles and 16 disposals.
Milan Murdock and Kody Manning combined for 42 disposals, four marks and seven tackles to keep East Fremantle in the game while Jarrad Jansen had 16 disposals, four tackles and an impressive 13 hit outs while pinch-hitting in the ruck.
In the forward line, Ryan Lester-Smith was fantastic with two goals, three marks and two tackles while Lachlan Bailey continued his strong season with two goals of his own.
In defence, Dylan Winton and Matthew Jupp - the stand in captain for the day was again outstanding as his ability to stop his opponent one on one was a big reason East Fremantle were able to lead the reigning premiers for such a long period of time.
In the final round of the home and away season, East Fremantle will return home to take on a confident Swan Districts who are fresh off a 37 point win over Perth. Bill Monaghan will be hoping his side can continue their good form shown in patches throughout the last month and the Sharks can return to the winners list to finish off season 2020.
