LifeCare Point Walter Injury List

23rd August 2017

Featured Player – Timothy Bristow

Last week saw the return on Shark’s forward Tim Bristow. Tim suffered a quadriceps tear in the first minute of our game against East Perth in Round 15. Tim had an interrupted pre-season and irregular season due to ongoing Achille’s tendon issues.

Tim’s rehabilitation for the quadriceps tear involved a staged eccentric strengthening program before making a return to running, kicking and finally resumption of full training load. Quadriceps tears are far less common than hamstring tears. They are usually sustained during sudden deceleration or kicking. Early diagnosis with ultrasound allowed us to plan for Tim’s rehabilitation accordingly, however quadriceps tears are often misdiagnosed as a corked thigh. This is an important injury not to miss, particularly at amateur and junior football level.

Tim made his return to the field 7 weeks after his injury, booting 4 goals and pulling up well through the week. For more information of quadriceps tears, you can read a short blog I posted earlier this week.
