Don GABRIELSON
‘Gabbo’ came to East Fremantle after a player swap with South Fremantle. He took over a half back flank where his terrific speed and clearing dashes barred the way of many a foreign attack.
He was solidly built and although not of great height, was a safe mark and had the uncanny knack of catching the half-forward out of position. His handling of the ball and ability to kick with either foot marked him as one of the best half-backs in the State during his era. After a knee injury brought Don’s playing career to a halt, he moved on to coaching. Don not only coached many junior teams to premierships but also played an important role in the development of the youth under his control and East Fremantle Football Club reaped the reward.
