English Signs with The Sharks
Luke English is East Fremantle’s latest recruit, signing with the club for the next two seasons.
Playing his junior football at Thornlie, English was selected by Richmond in the 2018 Draft.
He featured in the 2019 VFL premiership winning side and has been part of Richmond’s AFL squad that has claimed the last two AFL premierships.
At 17 years of age, Luke won the 2017 Jack Clarke Medal for the Best and Fairest in the WAFL Colts competition.
Football Manager, Brad Dodd, gave us his insight on the new arrival.
“A focus this off-season has been in bolstering our midfield and we believe that Luke is a really important piece in driving our squad forward,” Dodd said.
“He’s an extremely hard working inside midfielder, who is a strong two-way runner and hits the scoreboard regularly.”
Currently seeing out his two weeks in quarantine since arriving back from Melbourne, Luke is eager to get into the club and stuck into pre-season.
“I’m really looking forward to meeting everyone at East Fremantle. I’m keen to get out of quarantine and get to work. I’m excited to be joining the club and being part of a resurgence,” he said.
English said the prospect of joining the young talent already at East Fremantle, as well as some familiar faces, played a part in making his decision.
“After meeting with Brad, I believed in what the club is trying to build and I want to be part of an upcoming young team and to help them achieve success.”
“I played State football with Dillon O’Reilly and Durak Tucker plus I know Cody Leggett, so there’s a few boys I already know.”
English marks the fifth signing this off-season, joining Dillon O’Reilly, Josh Schoenfeld, Hugh Dixon and Corey Chalmers as new arrivals at the Sharks. The squad’s next training session is at New Choice Homes Park on Monday 7th December.
