Jonathon Marsh Returns

Monday, January 11, 2021 - 1:03 PM

The East Fremantle Football Club are delighted to announce the return of Jonathon Marsh for the 2021 season.

Marsh was selected by St Kilda in the 2019 Supplementary Selection Period, playing 11 games over two seasons including the 2020 Semi Final loss against Richmond.

Originally from Margaret River, Marsh joined the Sharks under the Grandfather/Grandson rule, with his grandfather, Ray Sorrell, playing 156 games for East Fremantle.

He was drafted in 2013, spending three seasons at Collingwood Football Club and registering 15 AFL games, before moving home to Western Australia at the end of 2016.

Marsh made his East Fremantle debut in 2017 and played 32 games in two seasons.

Football Manager, Brad Dodd, gave us his insight on the retuning Shark.

“We’ve been in constant contact with Jono over the past two years, following his progress at St Kilda and catching up with him whenever we could.” Dodd said.

“Once he and Elena decided to make the move back to Perth, we were confident we’d get him back in the Blue and White.”

“Jono offers Bill and the coaching staff some real flexibility - he’s played most of his AFL football down back but has the ability to play forward or run through the midfield.”

Currently seeing out his two weeks in quarantine since arriving from Melbourne, Marsh is excited about the squad that has been assembled.

“There’s been a fair bit of change since I was last at the club. Bill and Brad have been really forthright over the past few years about what they’re trying to achieve and changes they’ve made, so I’m excited about where the club is at,” he said.

Marsh is looking forward to re-starting with the group and getting to know the new faces in the squad.

“The club has recruited really well over the past two off-seasons, bringing in talented players with great character traits, who are the type of people you want around a football club.”

“I’m really looking forward to some team success and the list is at a point where it can be good for a long time, which I love.”

During his last stint at the Sharks, Marsh played numerous roles and does not expect anything different the second time around.

“From my early conversations with Bill, I’ll likely be used as a Mid/Forward but I’m happy to play anywhere, so no doubt, I’ll see some action down back.”

Marsh is the sixth addition this off-season, joining Dillon O’Reilly, Josh Schoenfeld, Hugh Dixon, Corey Chalmers and Luke English as new arrivals at the Sharks. The squad return to training at New Choice Homes Park tonight.
