Sharks launch 2021 Season with Aboriginal Smoking Ceremony

Friday, March 12, 2021 - 3:52 PM

The East Fremantle Football Club held their third annual Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country on Monday night.

Led by Elders Barry Winmar and Jeffery Farrell, our senior men’s and women’s teams, colts, futures, youthies, board and staff participated in the ceremony. The smoke has cleansing properties and the ability to ward off bad spirits from the people and the land, making a pathway for a brighter future.

A special moment of the ceremony was when Barry and Jeffery called the indigenous players of East Fremantle to the front. It was a great opportunity to recognise these players and their ancestors.

East Fremantle Football Club stands on Whadjuk land and we are proud to recognise the traditional landowners.
