Round 8 | Match Report
East Fremantle have fallen short of a surging Swan Districts in the wet at Steel Blue Oval, with another slow start proving to be game defining in the 8.13 (61) to 16.9 (105) loss.
This time it was a second term blitz from the Swans, where they kicked 8 goals to 2 in the space of 22 minutes, that ultimately decided the game.
The Swans led by 45 points just before the half time break before a strong response from the Sharks drew the margin back to just 20 points midway through the third term.
However, a three goal to one final term extinguished the chances of an East Fremantle comeback.
Cameron Eardley once again shone through as he was named the PetraClean Player of the Day. The midfielder was outstanding throughout the match as he collected 29 disposals five tackles and seven inside 50’s.
Luke Strnadica continued his good form in the ruck as he recorded 18 disposals and an impressive goal during the third term. The ruckman had 39 hit-outs and continues to lead the WAFL for hit-outs as well as having kicked the equal most goals for a ruckman in the competition.
Jordan Snadden impressed on his return to the senior side collecting 19 disposals, four inside 50’s and an impressive seven tackles while Nick Kommer kicked two goals for his equal best return of the season.
Jonathan Marsh spent large patches of the game in the middle of the ground for the second consecutive week as he was named amongst the best on ground while Tom Bennett (14 disposals), Jamie Meade (15 disposals) and skipper Matthew Jupp were all named amongst the best with Marsh.
Round 9 of the Optus WAFL Premiership Season sees the East Fremantle Sharks take on the South Fremantle Bulldogs in the WA Day Derby. Bill Monaghan’s side will be looking to put in a four-quarter performance and return to the winners list against last years premiers.
