Round 12 | Match Report
The East Fremantle Sharks have been defeated by a strong West Coast Eagles WAFL side in Round 12 of the WAFL Premiership Season.
The Sharks struggled to kick goals in the 6.12 (48) to 15.9 (99) loss, kicking nine less goals despite having just eight less inside-50’s.
Scores were level with both sides kicking 2.3 by quarter time - Luke English and Tom Monaghan kicking the goals for the Sharks.
Unfortunately for East Fremantle, that is where the game shifted in West Coasts favour with the Eagles kicking 13 goals to 4 after quarter time.
It was a disappointing performance from the Sharks, who would have been hoping for back-to-back wins for the first time in 2021 and looking at a spot in the top five.
Kyle Baskerville was adjudged the PetraClean Player of the Day for his career best game. His performance included 30 disposals and nine marks and comes after his 28-disposal game last week against the Demons.
Blaine Boekhorst continued to show his usual run and dash as he amassed 31-disposals, 13 marks and was deservedly named amongst the best on ground for the Sharks.
Second-gamer Cody Smith continued to show why he had earnt his spot in the league side, recording 16 disposals and an impressive eight tackles while skipper Matthew Jupp was once again named amongst the best on ground for his performance in defence.
The WAFL will have a week off following the State Governments restrictions disallowing teams to train during the week. East Fremantle will return to action the following week at New Choice Homes Park to take on Peel Thunder in their NAIDOC week clash. Bill Monaghan’s side will be looking to return to the winners list and reduce the gap between themselves and the top 5.
Goals: 1 - B Boekhorst, M Burton, T Bockman, L English, B Teakle, T Monaghan
Best: K Baskerville, B Boekhorst, M Jupp, C Smith
