Six West Australians Selected in AFLW Supplementary Draft
The West Australian Football Commission congratulates six West Australians taken in last night’s AFLW Draft.
In a major endorsement of the WAFC Talent Pathway Program, four of the players will remain in WA while two will move interstate.
WAFLW Premiership players Jasmin Stewart and Chloe Wrigley are heading to Port Adelaide and Carlton respectively.
A former Docker, Stewart was part of Claremont’s WAFLW triumph last year, claiming the Lou Knitter Medal for best afield.
The 24 year-old is bound for South Australia to play with the Power after being selected at pick 2.
Wrigley is now a Blue after enjoying dual Premierships with Peel Thunder.
The talented midfielder was also a recipient of the Lou Knitter Medal after a strong performance in the 2020 WAFLW Grand Final.
The Fremantle Dockers have swooped on four local players.
South Fremantle’s Tahleah Mulder is heading to Cockburn, taken at pick 3.
The 21 year-old averages 18 disposals a game in her first year of WAFLW with South Fremantle.
East Fremantle’s Emmelie Fiedler was taken in the draft at pick 7 by Fremantle.
The former Curtin Uni Wesley Amateur averages 20 hit-outs a game with the Sharks in the WAFLW this year.
Taken at pick 18 is another East Fremantle product, Jae Flynn.
She was part of last year’s WAFLW Grand Final before becoming a train on player with the Dockers.
Completing the quartet of Docker draftees is 29 year-old Joanne Cregg.
Originally from Ireland, Clegg was best on ground for Wembley Amateurs in the club’s Grand Final win last year.
She averages 15 disposals per game playing with Subiaco in the WAFLW this season.
Scott Baker, Executive Manager - Football Operations at the West Australian Football Commission, has paid tribute to the players and those who helped them get drafted.
“This is a fantastic achievement for the players themselves, the WAFLW clubs and the whole of the WAFLW Competition.
It’s a great acknowledgement of the growth and improvement of the competition in recent years and its significant role in developing players for AFLW level.
The WAFC congratulates all players selected in the AFLW Draft and we’ll continue tracking their careers with great interest,” Baker said.
