2023 Futures Awards Evening - Kaiden Summerell 'Harry Taylor Medallist'
The 2023 Futures season culminated last night with the annual awards night held at Shirley Strickland Pavilion.
Players, coaches, staff and parents gathered to celebrate a successful carnival by all.
Talent Manager David Depane introduced the evening format and thanked the fantastic staff that had devoted their time and commitment over the last six months.
In a major announcement to the crowd, it was announced that EFFC would be naming the Futures Fairest and Best award as the ‘Harry Taylor Medal’, in honour of the oustanding career that Harry had enjoyed over his many years in the game both at WAFL and AFL level.
Coach Andrew Browne then addressed the crowd, once again thanking his staff and complimenting the playing group for their devotion to the program. Parents were also thanked for their efforts in transporting and supporting the boys throughout.
It was also a pleasure to have our Football Director Adam Drake-Brockman in attendance. Adam also gave a great insight into the program and a more holistic view on the history and future of EFFC.
It was also pleasing to announce that 3 players; Jake Boniwell , Luke Carrello and Kaiden Summerell have been selected in WA State 16’s squad.
Andrew then introduced Harry to the crowd. Harry gave a great insight into his football journey and passed on some wonderful words of wisdom to the playing group on how hardwork and perseverance can help you achieve your ultimate goals in both a football sense and life in general.
Andrew then commenced the vote count for the six-round season.
In a very tight count Kaiden Summerell jumped out to an early lead with some excellent form but was reeled back in the final stages of the count by Jake Boniwell. Going into the last round Kaiden held a slender 4 vote lead over Jake. Both players played very solid games in the last round to poll 14 votes each, meaning that Kaiden held on for a four-vote win. Tom Grylls enjoyed a very solid back half to the carnival to finish strongly in third position. Other strong vote-getters were Oliver McManus on 35 votes and Harry Cox on 29 votes.
Kaiden was honoured to be presented the inaugural ‘Harry Taylor Medal’ as a reward for his very consistent carnival.
