Open Letter to East Fremantle Supporters Regarding the New Facility
Dear Members, Sponsors and Fans,
We are writing to inform you of an important update regarding our first game at the new facility at East Fremantle Oval, which was initially scheduled for May 11.
Our Club was advised this morning by the Town of East Fremantle that they will be unable to provide a satisfactory playing surface in time due to continued issues with the grass.
Like you, we are frustrated and disappointed.
Some parts of the oval have experienced slower than expected growth which has meant the overall grass coverage of the oval is not where it needs to be to meet the WAFL and WAFLW requirements. Player safety and the long-term sustainability of the oval is paramount and it’s critical that the playing surface meets the necessary standards before any games are played.
Despite this setback, we are pleased to inform you that the venue itself is ready for use. Our Club's administration is on track to move into the new facility in the coming weeks, which marks a significant milestone in our transition.
It's important to note that project delays, such as the one we are currently facing, are not uncommon in the current environment. We have been working diligently with the Town of East Fremantle and despite best efforts to meet the May 11 deadline, the unforeseen issues with the playing surface have necessitated a postponement.
The Town of East Fremantle have advised us of the target date for the practical completion of the playing surface, aiming for June 14. This sets the stage for our first game at the new facility on June 29, and we are looking forward to them meeting that milestone.
The Club is exploring all options to safeguard against any potential financial impact resulting from this delay.
We are actively working on alternatives for our upcoming home games and we will provide further updates on these arrangements.
We appreciate your understanding, patience, and continued support during this period of transition. Please stay tuned for further updates and announcements as we navigate through these challenges together.
It has been a promising start to both Men’s and Women’s campaigns, and we are fully focused on getting behind our teams. We ask you to support the players and your Club as we navigate this season of transition.
Thank you for your unwavering dedication to the East Fremantle Football Club as we stay united for the Blue & White.
Kind regards,
Mark Stewart, President & Addy Wetzler, CEO
