Sharks circle the Swans
After two narrow losses our boys will look to bounce back against a Swan Districts side that has exceeded all expectations with a 5-1 start to the year. Last week they took on and ran over the previously unbeaten Subiaco Lions by 43 points. In last week's match the Sharks stormed home in the last quarter, after being held scoreless in the third, kicking six goals to nil, but that wasn’t quite enough, eventually going down by 10 points to a very strong East Perth side.
This week signals the return of former captain Mark McGough. Mark came back through the Reserves last week, after missing a significant time of football after wrist surgery. Goughy managed to get through unscathed and pulled up well. His inside clearance work will no doubt be very handy in what might be slightly wet, slippery conditions. After 5 goals and 12 marks in the Reserves last week, Jack Perham has earned his place back in the League side.
The story of the week in terms of selection will be Brandon Ellis, who will make his League debut. Brandon missed Reserves selection in Round 4 and was a late call up for the Easter Round fixture against Peel, where he kicked 5 goals in that game. Over the next two weeks Brandon kicked two further bags of 5, taking a number of strong contested marks and kicking accurately. We all wish Brandon the best of luck tomorrow.
The League side will not only look to improve the season record to 4-3 this weekend but will also look to win back the MND Cup that Swans won in Round 1, 2013. Each year East Fremantle and Swan Districts play for the MND Cup in memory of Swans Life Member Joyce Allen and East Fremantle Premiership Player and past coach Kerry Coates.
The Reserves boys will look to win 4 in a row and take their season to a 5-2 record. Form in recent weeks has been good and last week they held off a fast finishing East Perth by just 4 points. The addition of Mitch Boyle and Aidan Tropiano will add some bite to the midfield, along with the Bristow brothers who both played fantastic games last week.
And to round out the weekend the Colts will play Swans as part of the Colts’ Super Round, which has become an annual round to allow AFL recruiters and State Academy staff view all players in the one weekend. Three games will be held at Shark Park with our boys kicking the day off at 9am Saturday.
We wish all our grades the best of luck on the weekend
Go Sharks…..Onward to Victory.
