Oliver Parish Wins Trott Medal

Monday, September 22, 2014 - 9:22 AM

Oliver (Ollie) Parish, the diminutive on-baller, has taken out the Alan Trott Medal as the best player in the East Fremantle Colts’ side for season 2014.  Ollie, at 17 years of age and only 172cm tall, claimed the medal from Fraser Perry and AIS Academy member Jordan Snadden.  Key defender Nathan Morton-Smith and forward Jacob Gittos rounded out the top five.

Ollie, who started the season a little underdone after a few injuries, started the count slowly and after round 6 was sitting outside the top 10 with only 23 votes.  However over the next 4 rounds he polled in every game, totaling 122 votes, moving into second position.

From that point on Ollie performed consistently, polling in 9 of the last 11 games to run away to win by 85 votes.  Ollie showed throughout the year that size counts for little if you have the desire and a willingness to compete.  Ollie has been courageous, disciplined and he showed signs that he is a student of the game, being able to read the play, position himself in excellent areas and use the ball well.

Other award winners included:

  • Best Clubman – Tom Bennett
