Sharks Pups Cop it Tough

Tuesday, February 17, 2015 - 1:35 PM

In a first for an Academy squad at East Fremantle Football Club, the 16’s Academy squad were put through more than just their paces yesterday by Phil Britten and his team at WAIMA (West Australian Institute of Martial Arts), at Leighton Beach.

The two hour “boot camp” was set around the theme of resiliency, team work, leadership and just hard work and there’s no doubt that by the end of the session the entire squad had to dig deep to get through, plus pull a few along the way.

The session combined boxing, crawling under army nets, push ups, burpees, kicking bags, lifting and more to test even the biggest, best and strongest of our squad.

Daren Bell, East Fremantle District Officer and assistant coach said the session was an ideal opportunity for the boys to test themselves, both mentally and physically, and to really develop that team bond by working together in tough situations.

Phil Britten, Director of WAIMA, said, “It was great to work with the East Freo rising stars and give them some skills to develop their leadership, communication and determination through a series of tough drills.”

With the final scratch match against Clontarf approaching, we hope that this amazing experience will hold the boys in good stead over the next few weeks, leading in to the carnival.
