Vale Harold Jefferys (1922 - 2015)
The East Fremantle Football Club sends its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Harold Jefferys, who passed away yesterday at the age of 92. Harold was a familiar face at the Club and well-liked and respected by all of the staff, players and volunteers. He will be sadly missed.
Harold is an East Fremantle Hall of Famer, Life Member and the 2015 Match Ball Legend. Just last Friday, Harold's sister Wendy Rogers attended our members night where, on behalf of Harold, she accepted a 2015 Match Ball, on which Harold Jefferys is the Match Ball Legend.
Harold was born in London but has lived most of his life in North Fremantle. He made his East Fremantle debut on 11 May 1946 and played through to 1953 amassing a total of 155 games. In his early career he was a rugged and resourceful winger, a position he played in the 1946 Grand Final as part of the undefeated Sharks side, and also in the 10th Australian Carnival in 1947.
He later moved to the backline where his interaction with the fullback, his physical strength, strong marking and long kicking helped him to win the 1952 Lynn Medal. Through his years as a member of the back line Harold rarely played an ineffectual game. He was a close checking back man, strongly built and had eyes only for the ball.
