Colts ready for a big 2015
After challenging 2014 season I was excited about the Colts' program and squad of 2015, with a number of players continuing with the experience and knowledge of what to expect. This was very apparent throughout the pre-season. Players presented on the first night in great condition and have maintained that level since.
With 110 invitees from our junior district and Midwest Academy, pre-season kicked off in early November. Over the following 14 weeks the players were put through a gruelling program headed by Matt Riley, Head of Sports Science, where the players were tested mentally and physically. The group's fitness is well ahead of last year with a number of players achieving PBs. Well done to Matty and his team.
There has also been a large focus on the basic fundamentals of the game. More time was set a side for skills and game development. The inclusion of our new coaching group Gino Stefanio, Troy Douglas and Brad Dodd have had an immediate effect on the playing group, all three come with vast coaching experience and knowledge of the WAFL competition.
As we look ahead into Season 2015 there is positivity amongst the group. A number of our "senior" players have had big pre-seasons and can look forward to a big year ahead. Along with the encouraging development of first year players, the group looks set for a prosperous season.
I would like to congratulate the players selected in the leadership group for this season. Fraser Perry as Captain, Nick Menegola Vice Captain, with Jimmy Harold, Jordan Snadden, Tom Bennett and Ollie Parish rounding out the group.
I look forward to seeing everyone down at ATOM Stadium throughout the season to cast their eyes over what we hope are the next generation of Sharks stars.
