Match Report - Sharks v Demons Practice Match

Monday, March 16, 2015 - 12:04 PM by Miles Attey

East Fremantle put on an improved team performance against Perth in the Club’s final practice match for the pre-season.

On a humid and stormy Saturday afternoon, the Sharks did what they needed to do without losing any players to injury. Despite Perth finishing the game off strongly, the Sharks were good enough to hold on and defeat Perth 15.7 (97) to 10.7 (67).

East Fremantle started the game very well with the midfield dominating and giving the forwards plenty of opportunity. Jake Schleicher and Jack Perham were both good early, each kicking an impressive goal from outside 50.

East Fremantle were at their defensive best in the second quarter, managing to keep Perth goalless. At half time the score saw the Sharks lead 48 to 17.

A standout for the day was the effort by young rucks Andrew Stokes and Jack Fletcher.  Both boys rucked well in their first senior hit-out and combined to give the Sharks midfield first supply.  The Sharks can look forward to their continued development, which will provide much needed flexibility at League level.

Of the forwards Jack Perham looked dangerous managing to boot four goals.  Brandon Ellis led well up the ground and Ryan Lester-Smith, with ten tackles and two goals provided a spark much needed from the week before. Danny Chartres led the defence across half back, regularly intercepting marks and setting up play. New recruit Liam Anthony was very impressive in the midfield in his final hit-out before round one, gathering 32 possessions, 20 in the first half.

After a convincing first three quarters of football, East Fremantle tired in the fourth quarter and Perth took advantage, kicking the first four goals of the term. East Fremantle, however, were good enough to regain their composure and finish the final quarter off strongly, kicking the final four goals of the game.

In what's set to be a huge round one clash, the Sharks take on last year’s grand finalists East Perth in a Saturday night Blockbuster.

The match takes place at Domain Stadium on Saturday March 21st at 7:10pm.

Be sure to get down to the game for your chance to kick for $100,000 at half time.
