Match Preview: Sharks v Falcons
The Sharks will be up against the Falcons this Saturday at ATOM Stadium (East Fremantle Oval) and will be looking for an improved performance after another loss last weekend to Perth left them winless for the last 9 games. The visitors are also coming off a loss last week to their rivals East Perth by 4 points, however the Falcons are still sitting nicely in 2nd position on the ladder with 10 wins for the season. This week in the WAFL is Count Me In Round, which will be promoting a fair go for all and better access and inclusion at the footy.
Sean Henson, Brandon Ellis, Adrian Ricciardello, Jake Schleicher and Andrew Stokes have been added to the squad for the Sharks at the expense of Jayden Schofield and Barry Barone who is out with an illness. Henson responded well last week in the Development League and has earned a recall, as has Ellis who is back in the League side after strong performances in the last 2 weeks, where he had 8 shots on goals both weeks. Ricciardello is a chance to play his first League game of the season after stringing a number of consistent games together.
The last time these sides met was in Round 9 at HBF Arena where the Falcons won by 32 points, starting the 9 game losing streak that the Sharks will be hoping to break on the weekend. Saturday’s game kicks off at 2:15pm at ATOM Stadium.
The Sharks Development League side had an impressive 3-point win over Perth last week and are showing some form in the back end of the season, now winning 3 out of their last 4 games. The Development League are out of finals contention sitting 8th on the ladder but would like to continue to cause havoc for the sides contesting for top 5 positions by beating the 4th placed West Perth this weekend. In Round 9 in their only other encounter this season the Falcons came away with a 59-point win. Bounce down in the Development League is at 11:30am on Saturday.
The Sharks Colts continued their impressive run in Round 18 after last minute goal got them over the line against Perth. The Colts sit in 3rd place with 10 wins for the year and will take on the 6th placed Falcons side this week who they beat comfortably back in Round 9. The Sharks sit just 1 win behind the top 2 sides and will be hoping to challenge Claremont and Swan Districts at the top of the ladder. Good Luck to the Colts who start at 9am on Saturday.
