Sharks Make WAFL Colts Team of the Year
A huge congratulations to Matthew Burton and Corey Homes who were deservedly recognised as part of the 26 man WAFL Colts Team of the Year squad for the 2016 season, after an outstanding year for the Sharks. The team was announced last night at the annual Jack Clarke Medal, the Sandover equivalent for the WAFL Colts competition.
It was also no coincidence that the two boys were also the two highest vote getters for the Sharks in the medal count, with Burton finishing with 32 votes, in 7th position behind eventual winner Michael Humble (43 votes) form Peel. Holmes finished the count a few positions lower with a very handy 23 votes of his own.
Burton finished the season averaging 20.4 disposals, 13 of which were contested (3rd in the Colts competition) per game. Burton was also one of the highest clearance players averaging 5.5 per match. He took 46 marks, laid 64 tackles and kicked 14 goals for the season. A feature of Burton’s play was his hard work ethic, something that was evident from the first preseason session back in November last year. Holmes was the Sharks highest possession getter for 2016, averaging 21.6 per game. Like Burton, Holmes’ strong work ethic from the wing also saw him rebound the ball from defensive 50 three times per match. He took 100 marks for the season.
Once again everyone at the Sharks congratulates the boys on their outstanding season.
