16s Development Squad Coaching Update
The 16s Development squad have been up and running since early December 2016 with new Head Coach Larry Cavallo and Assistants John Hancock, Jeremy Bruse and Austin Ward.
This year Larry and John have come on board with a wealth of experience and knowledge coming from the WA State sides. Jeremy Bruse and Austin Ward continue with the squad as Assistants which is fantastic.
Also assisting the 16s squad is Daniel Richards and Team Manager Carolyn Sharp, as well as Strength & Conditioning Coach Brendan Lewis. Daniel was involved with last year’s 16s so he has a great understanding and knowledge of how the 16s program works. Carolyn does an outstanding job with her role as Team Manager and brings experience from community level and East Fremantle’s year 10 squad. Brendan is an Exercise Sport Science student at Notre Dame and comes on board from being the Strength and Conditioning Coach for the East Fremantle year 9 squad.
An update from the Coach Larry Cavallo;
It has been a real eye opener in my first year back coaching especially at 16's level (my last full year was in 2014 with Subiaco league doing the mid field). The lads had to adapt and understand the transition from 14's & 15's development programs to 16's and a potential Colts program within the same year. As they have come to realise, the required attitude and work ethic is significantlyabove what they have experienced in the past.
The primary focus should always be on skill level for these young players. It is pleasing to see the key aspects of kicking and handballing improve from the initial stages of the program.
I have been satisfied this group is working hard to reach the Professionalism, Respect & Unity that is the core values of EFFC.
I know along with the players and the coaches that we are looking forward to executing what we have implemented/learnt so far to date and in the coming weeks a level that EFFC will be proud of in the carnival.
Keep up the hard work boys and the rewards will come!!
The 16s Carnival kicks off on March 11th against East Perth at East Fremantle Oval.
