Brodie Riach Joins the Frenzy

Tuesday, November 19, 2019 - 4:34 PM

The East Fremantle Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of Brodie Riach for the next two seasons.

Brodie spent the 2019 season at the West Coast Eagles as a Category B Rookie, where he played 13 games for the WAFL Eagles side.

As a junior, Brodie was a talented footballer and basketballer, eventually deciding to pursue the latter with the goal of attending college in the United States. He received a basketball scholarship to a school in Wyoming but prior to departing for his freshman year, he started to gain some interest from AFL clubs. After trialling at West Coast, Geelong and GWS, Brodie signed with the West Coast Eagles as a Category B Rookie for the 2019 season.

“My experience at West Coast this past 18 months will hold me in good stead moving forward. I was fortunate to be around and learn from some of the best players in the AFL,” Riach said.

After his time at West Coast ended, Brodie was determined to pursue his football dream. Finding a club that he felt could continue his development as a player was at the top of his wish list. That decision became clearer after a meeting with Head Coach, Bill Monaghan and Football Manager, Brad Dodd.

“I chose East Fremantle based on the initial feel I got from the club as a whole. I really respect the way they have gone about things and I’m sure that professionalism trickles down from top to bottom. I am really excited about where I think this group can get too. When you look at our list on paper, it’s quite impressive. It’s only a matter of time before that translates on the field,” Riach said.

Football Manager, Brad Dodd said Brodie will be a great addition to the club.

“I think Brodie has only just scratched the surface of his football journey. We see him as being able to play anywhere, but we’re likely to use him forward or through the wings. He is a very good endurance athlete and has a great attitude. He’s a well-rounded kid who is determined to get better, something we always look for in our players,” Dodd said.

Brodie is keen to launch into pre-season, starting on Monday November 25th.

“I’m really looking forward to getting started so I can get to know the playing group and begin to form a connection with all the players and coaches. My main focus is to work hard and earn the respect of the group.”
