The Sharks Academy Squads had their final fixture of the Academy carnival
on Thursday 8th October at Medibank Stadium against Subiaco. In very warm
conditions the day was always going to provide a good setting to showcase

On Friday night at a gala event at ATOM Stadium, Brock O’Brien was awarded the 2015 Lynn Medal for the Fairest & Best at the East Fremantle Football Club.  Brock was a comfortable winner, polling 243 votes, 49 votes ahead of second place Jamie McNamara.

Third place went to last year’s best First Year Player Cam Eardley, while retiring Ruckman Rob Young, and Captain Rory O’Brien rounded out the top 5.

On Monday 5th October the Bendigo Bank Talent Academy squads played Perth at Lathlain Park for Round 3 of the Academy Carnival. In blustery, damp conditions the day was always going to be challenging for the players and it proved that way with some good football mixed in with some scrappy play throughout the day. The 14’s Early squad kicked things off again and were outclassed on the day against Perth side that handled the conditions better. In what was a low scoring affair for the Sharks, the boys were outgunned 3 goals 8 points for the game to Perth’s 11 goals 6 points. Raymond Burge, Thomas Johnson and Joshua Goodwin all kicking majors. Best afield for the Sharks were Raymond Burge, Joshua Goodwin, Chad Warner, Angus Wood and Aton Mason. There were certainly still some positives to take out of the game and with this program being all about development no doubt the boys will take significant learnings from the match.

The carnival is the pinnacle of the academy program. It is played over two weeks, with each squad playing in four fixtures against other WAFL Academy teams.
